2020 Official Selection

Wimbledon International Short Film Festival proudly presents the 2020 Official Selection.

This year the festival will run online between September 28th and October 4th, with more details to be announced over the coming weeks.

Anna

Living in war-torn Eastern Ukraine, Anna is an ageing single mother who is desperate for a change. Lured by a radio advertisement, she goes to party with a group of American men who are touring the country, searching for love.

It’s morning and Anna has to face an important business meeting. Unfortunately, her family routine and some accidents slow her down and force her to deal with an anxious run against time that will make her forget what is most important.

Brother, Move On

Director & producer – Antshi von Moos

Geeta is one of the few taxi drivers in India. Her taxi service “for women by women” enables women to move freely in the city at any time. Her motivation is: “The more women become taxi drivers, the less women are afraid to step out of the house.” Geeta’s hope is that the cityscape and atmosphere of the city will increasingly change and so will the position of women in society.

Sarah, a shy 15-year-old girl, finds the courage to open up about the abuse she and her brother have faced at the hands of their mother and the psychological consequences of it while attending an appointment at a children’s mental health facility.

Matilde’s First Day

Today is Matilde’s first day of school. Her father Claudio was supposed to take her there but he didn’t show up. Her grandfather decided to walk Matilde, but Claudio joined them to talk with her little daughter, giving her some advice to face this important day of her life, before embracing his own destiny.

Not for money, not for love, not for nothing

Using animation for anonymity, real questions are deliberated by women, sharing their stories. The film follows Paula, who came to Newport on a spiritual mission to help women who have become trapped by abusive relationships and beaten by those who pay for the privilege.

Pizza Boy

Saba, from Georgia, works as a Pizza delivery boy in Bologna. During his evening shift he receives an important phone call: his son is about to be born. Forced to finish his deliveries, Saba goes through the city frenetically, hoping to be on time at the hospital.

A poetic monologue from a teenage girl set to narrative scenes based around the themes and social issues of teenage identity formation, race, child separation and parental alienation. A contemporary coming of age story set in the north of England ten minutes in length, the plot twists around the poetry of 15 year old Kairos.

Arezou is a young immigrant, on the edge of the UK, of her family and of adulthood. Disillusioned by the England she finds herself in, she seizes on a risky opportunity, joining a group of farm workers in the English countryside. Initially scared, she finds her feet among the migrant apple pickers of Kent and takes the first steps into her own life.
